Belgian dairy farmers sprayed 40,000 litres of milk over Luxembourg’s Place de l’Europe on Monday morning in protest against falling milk prices.

The “white out” came after a convoy of 37 tractors and two milk tankers partially blocked the A6 motorway and then blockaded the area of Boulevard JF Kennedy in front of the European Convention Center.

They unleashed the milky protest on the building next to the Council of Agriculture Ministers, spraying a few police officers in the process.

Police will later escort the protestors when they return to Belgium.

The protest was called as discussions get underway for new aid following the abolition of the milk quota system. The price of milk has fallen steadily in Europe in recent months where supply has exceeded demand.
