After taking the Holstein championship for the second year running Parkend Sanchez Tamara went one better this year taking the supreme inter-breed title.

Home bred by Brian Weatherup and Partners, Cowdenbeath, Fife, the daughter of Gen-Mark Stmatic Sanchez calved her third last month and is currently giving 63kg having produced in excess of 15,000kg in her last lactation. As well as last year’s success at the show it was all Britain senior heifer in 2013 and All Britain junior cow in 2014.
Inter-breed judge, Robert Burrow, Preston, said his champion had power and size, was strong in the loin with super veination and bone quality.
Tapped out as reserve was the Jersey champion, Wellhouse Festival Spry, a fourth calver from Hew Howie and Wilma Benson of Wellhouse Jerseys, Stranraer. Having calved in February it is currently giving 26kg and was being shown for the first time.
Holsteins also claimed the junior championship with the top spot going to Jack Brewster, Glasgow, with Boclair Sid Hope, a heifer by Pine Tree Sid. Reserve junior was the reserve Jersey champion, Clifton Tequilla Bracken, a heifer in-milk from Steven, Claire and Lizzie Bland, who milk 270 Jerseys near Penrith.
Reserve champion Holstein was Illens Atwood Australia, a second calver from Blythbridge Holsteins, West Linton, Peebleshire. By Maple Downs Atwood and bought from its breeders at Swiss Expo in January, it calved in October and is giving 45kg daily.
Taking the Red and White championship was Cuthill Towers Classic Ellie, a second calver from the Lawrie family, Kinross. Giving 40kg daily having calved in November, it was a winner at UK Dairy Expo.
Standing reserve in the Red and White section was Brieryside Razzle Sea Baby from Jim and Gilmour Lawrie, Monkton, Ayrshire who also took the Ayrshire championship with Brieryside Executive Sparky 7, a Waxham Executive daughter. Six weeks calved and giving 48kg daily, it was being shown for the first time this season.
J. Davidson and Sons, Castle Douglas, claimed the reserve champion rosette with Halmyre Urr Louise 254, a second calver by Palmyra Tri-Star whose mother took the championship at the show in 2008. Having calved in December it has produced 8,340kg in this lactation to date.
Leading the Dairy Shorthorns was Strickley Barrington Dot 21, a second calver by Llandovery Jinnys Empire. Home-bred by James Robinson who milks 120 organic Dairy Shorthorns near Kendal, it has been calved two months and is currently giving 45kg daily.
Third calver, Bishopbrae Royal Kathleen, one of 12 Dairy Shorthorns, owned by Steven Girvan from Northern Ireland, but kept with John Teesdale at Brickhouse, Dumfries, took the reserve rosette. The third calver by Kirkbryde Royal Event, is following in the footstep of its mother who took the championship at the show three times.
