Topping the sale at $30,000 was the pick of the number 7 or number 13 GTPI “Powerball” heifer calves in the breed who sold in absentia. Purchased by T & L Cattle Ltd., Rosedale, B.C., and sold by Vogue Cattle Company, Mapel Wood Powerball Langley has a +2653 GTPI and +3397 GPA LPI and her sister Oconnors Powerball Lindley with a +2613 GTPI and +3339 GPA LPI. They are daughters of Snowbiz N Uno Lena (VG-85-2y), the “Numero Uno” who is the new number 4 GLPI cow in Canada with a +3225 GLPI. Projected to 10,206 kg milk, 3.6% fat, 3.2% protein (255-248-257), Lena completes ten generations of Very Good or Excellent in the Comestar Laurie Sheik family.
Second highest seller of the day was Pol Butte McCutchen Babette, a 2-year-old “McCutchen” from the Barbie family, at $27,000 purchased by Ferme Blondin, Saint-Placide, Que. First junior 2-year-old at this year’s Expo Victoriaville and fresh since mid-May, she was consigned by Ferme Fortale Holstein Inc., Saint-Christophe-d’Arthabaska, Que. She is from a Very Good-88-2y “Goldwyn” full sister to the three-time All-American and once All-Canadian Butz-Butler Gold Barbara (Ex-92-USA).
Round out the top sellers was a December 2014 “Goldwyn” heifer calf, Comestar Lari Dream Goldwyn, who sold for $25,000 to Diamond Hill Farms, Cornwall, P.E.I., with consignor Comestar Holstein, Victoriaville, Que., retaining an interest. This calf is a full sister to Comestar Larion Goldwyn (VG-89-2y-USA) who was All-Canadian and All-American as a senior calf in 2013 and senior yearling in 2014. They are from a Very Good-88 “Roy” dam with 20,751 kg milk, 4.0% fat, 3.0% protein (351-385-334) who is from the same family as Lylehaven Lila Z (Ex-94-20*).
